Solia Flat Iron Buying Guide

Solia flat irons are one of the biggest selling brands today. Only brands like CHI and Sedu can claim to sell as many hair straighteners. Apart from marketing, its success lies in the features you get, at a price that's very competitive and that many buyers just love the job it does on their hair. The following compares Solia to other brands and evaluates how it compares.

There are a lot of models of Solia flat iron to choose from, however, there are three basic ones. Each major type offers a different function, whether it is tourmaline or a world traveler edition. What's impressive about each model is its price; without doubt these tools are one of the most competitively priced on the market, which has no doubt contributed to their popularity.

First off we have the Solia Tourmaline Ceramic flat iron. There are 4 different models to choose from, the only difference being the plate size. You have the choice of 3/4", 1", 1 1/2" and 1 3/4". I really like that there are 4 plate widths to choose from; most other brands usually only feature a 1" and 2" version for any particular model.

Another great feature of this model is that the plates are 100% ceramic and are coated with tourmaline crystal. Tourmaline emits 6 times more negative ions than does ceramic. Negative ions close cuticles thereby locking in moisture. This means that hair is less damaged and stays straighter for longer.

These hair straighteners also come with Dynamic Alignment System. The plates aren't rigidly fixed, but will move slightly to follow the contours of your hair. This helps to ensure that heat is applied evenly.

Both the dynamic alignment and the tourmaline are excellent features that most other tools lack - the Corioliss flat iron also comes with these features and is, in my opinion, one of the best styling tools on the market, but it costs a lot more than the Solia.

Finally, this hair straightener can be used on damp hair. Prices start at around $70.

The Solia pink flat iron is popular. It's exactly the same as the Tourmaline Ceramic range. The only downside with this tool is that it's only available with 1" plates. It really would have been nice if the choice of plate widths was the same as the Tourmaline models.

The last of the irons is the Solia Universal Dual Voltage flat iron. The adaptor that comes with it allows it to be used anywhere in the world. A clever feature is that the pins on the plug can be changed to match the different sockets found around the world - how many of us take a long our universal hair tools but forget to by a plug adaptor? However, the coolest feature has to be the fact that a 12 volt car adapter allows you to use it in your car!

The price of this model is $100, which is great value for such a versatile tool. Again, only 1" plates are available. There should be a 2" version as well, oh well. It's also a little on the heavy side when compared to the other models, but it's not meant to be used everyday, so I don't think this is a big deal.

The price of a Solia flat iron along with the features you get make it a great buy. It may not be the best flat iron you can buy - the Corioliss is certainly better - but you just can't beat it in terms of value for money.

What’s The Best Flat Iron On The Market?

September 5, 2009 by Barbara

There's no such thing as the best flat iron. A straightener than works best for one usually doesn't work so well for another. To find the most suitable you first need to decide on budget, plate width and what special features, if any, it should have; like steam, dual voltage etc. Here are one or two suggestions to help you along.

Personal recommendations from friends and family are great, especially if you can try out the straightener. That way you can see the results and decide if it works the best for you. Also, read as many flat iron reviews as you can. When using reviews you should compare like with like; obviously comparing an expensive GHD flat iron to that of a cheap Conair flat iron is meaningless.

The following recommendation are by no means exhaustive, but are meant to help you along the way.

Cheap

A good cheap iron is one that will at least straighten hair and not burn it. No matter what model you buy make sure it has ceramic plates; it's best if the plates are solid ceramic and not just coated, though this is easier said than done. The Conair flat iron is great value for money. The Infiniti 1 1/2" is a good all round straightener and costs as little as $40. It's cordless and also has tourmaline coated ceramic plates. What's really very appealing is that it comes with a 5 year limited warranty.

Wet To Dry

The wet to dry flat iron is becoming increasingly popular as the need to first blow dry hair perfectly dry is done away with, which saves times and subjects hair to less damaging heat. Nearly every manufacturer now makes one. The model you buy should have special channels and vents to allow excess moisture to drain and evaporate away; if it doesn't have these, it's not really a wet to dry appliance. A good budget model is the Wigo Damp or Dry Ceramic 2" flat iron. The Maxiglide has 'bursts of steam' which those with very unmanageable hair might like, though it's rather heavy and bulky. My favorite is the Corioliss Tourmaline Ceramic Wet to Dry flat iron with 1.75" plates - a very well-built and easy to use tool.

Professional

If you really want one of the best flat irons you should look to buy a professional standard model. They're expensive but they'll last longer, do the job quicker and better than cheaper models. Companies like Paul Mitchell, CHI and Solia make good models, however I would recommend the GHD Mk4 flat iron - very expensive but probably the best styling tool on the market.

Trendy

Yes, hair straighteners are becoming more beautiful to look at. First we had pink ones and even purple ones and ones with lime green plates. But, the most trendy and stylish looking has to be the Linea-Pro Corioliss C2 flat iron. It not only looks good but is also a very good styler. It has nano-silver technology (kills 99% of bacteria and removes dirt from hair, leaving it shinier), an overall sleek design, has a funky digital remote control and comes in very stylish color combinations.

As I said earlier, there's no such thing as the best flat iron. You can pay top dollar for one like the GHD flat iron or buy one that's cheap like the Conair flat iron, it doesn't matter. What matters is that your happy using it and are happy with the way it straightens and styles your hair.

The Best Ceramic Flat Irons Reviewed

Straightening your hair to get a smooth silky finish is all the rave these days. To determine which ceramic flat irons are best I decided to do some research and ask some friends about their experiences. Firstly your selection of a ceramic hair straightener versus the old metal types is a great idea. Ceramic plates tend to heat up faster and more evenly and are less damaging to your hair.
The ceramic emits negative ions which helps preserve moisture and the natural oils plus it seals the hair cuticle and reduces static. I looked at some of the top selling ceramic straightening irons and here is a summary of their features plus the pros and cons to help you decide for yourself.

Farouk CHI Flat Hairstyling Iron

The Farouk Chi Ceramic Flat Iron is the probably the top selling ceramic flat iron these days. It heats up in seconds and stays hot - temperature reaches up to 410 Degrees. It has a long 10 foot swivel cord which makes it comfortable to style entire head. Also it is great for not just straightening but also flipping and curling your hair. Hair comes out shiny and smooth after one pass. The draw backs are first it has no temperature control and second many people have had problems with it breaking down within months. Even so I have friends who swear by it and say it it worth every penny and the shortcomings.

Ceramic Tools Professional Flat Iron

The Ceramic Tools Flat Iron and is very economical and provides very good results. It heats up fast and stays hot evenly. Unlike the CHI this one comes with 25 different heat settings which go up to 446 degrees and it has on on/off switch with an indicator light.I also like the soft grip handle. It has rounded edges which help hair glide easily and allow for curls or flips also.

Solia Ceramic Flat Iron

The Solia is also a very popular brand for straightening irons and they also claim you can use it on damp hair or dry hair. I don't recommend that kind of heat on wet hair but some people claim it works great and does not do any additional damage to your hair. The Solia does heat up fast and goes up to 450F. It maintains it temperature and the iron plates are smooth and don't snag hair. The handles are very comfortable and the extra long 9 foot cord is ideal.

All the above ceramic flat irons work very well. After you take into account some of different features and your budget I think you will be happy with whichever one you select. Hope this information helps you decide which ceramic flat iron is best for you.
